Integrating spirituality and leadership may seem paradoxical, but Dr. Martha Geaney's research and business experience demonstrate that spirituality is a key component of leadership, and there is a growing need for the integration of spirituality in organizational and personal behaviors. This relationship is sometimes called spiritual or whole person leadership. Whole person or spiritual leadership requires a new model of transformational competencies and behaviors such as:
- Focusing on service and servant leadership
- Developing trusting relationships and relational behaviors
- Visioning a greater meaning and purpose for the organization
- Balancing organizational community with personal wholeness for employees
- Demonstrating values that incorporate service, stewardship and social responsibility
- Building creativity, meaning and purpose into products and services

We believe that transformational organizations develop spiritual and whole person behaviors, competencies, and practice behaviors and practices, such as appreciative inquiry, servant leadership, and relational leadership, to instantiate meaning and purpose in their organization's work. Flourishing, sustainable organizations incorporate spiritual and whole person competencies, behaviors, tools, techniques, and processes that design creativity, meaning, and purpose into their relationships, products, and services.
