I’m juggling my schedule between teaching, keynotes, consulting, and taking some time for myself. Today I have a few hours of down time and thought I’d take this opportunity to blog for a few minutes.
My book is in its final edit, the indexer and typesetter are ready to go, and the cover design artist will walk me through cover art in the next two weeks.
I’ve posted a large flip chart paper on my office door with a running list of all the odds and ends that must be completed to complete this project. Once I have the proofs I’ll be reaching out to contacts to ask for testimonials to place on the front and back covers.
Change is here whether it’s new technologies to support green strategies, new business models, global warming, or the way in which we order our Starbuck’s coffee in the morning. We need to bring emotional intelligence and healing abilities to our organizations now more than ever. Change management will be more critical than it’s ever been before in this time of investing in rebranding and innovation.
Have you assessed your personal change management characteristics? What do you have to do to adopt and adapt in these changing times? How is your organization handling the change? Here are three things you may wish to consider:
· Listen and communicate with your team members more often. The increased volume of change, positive and negative, requires the leader’s ability to heal and rebuild trust and institute transparent accounting and communication processes.
· Develop empathy and understanding of what personally motivates and gives meaning to your team members. Global implementation projects bring together different cultures with different stresses, and perspectives. Don’t just manage the project; connect the team member’s personal motivations to the purpose of the project.
· Facilitate, Facilitate, Facilitate! Get better at facilitating and listening instead of telling people what to do.
Til next time,
Dr. M.
