THE STEWARD LEADERSHIP MODEL: UNLEASHING HUMAN POTENTIAL
During the week, I received an email concerning my journal article, Servant and Steward: The Steward Leader Model for Unleashing Human Potential published in The International Journal of Servant-Leadership. This article was the result of my business leadership experiences, research and discussions with business leaders concerning how they practice whole-person leadership. The article explores steward leadership concepts in the context of the business world.
For some time now, I've felt that this model is one that deserves more emphasis within teams and groups in an organization. Of course, this means embracing a mental mind set that envisions the American business landscape as a place where concern for leaving a legacy and a sustainable world are important aspects of the business agenda.
So how do we begin to change the mental models?
I write about this in the journal article and in my book in progress, "Bring Your Spirit to Work - One Woman at a Time". Language plays an important role in changing mind sets. How often are the words contained in your mission statement and the vision for the business included in the context of the organization's everday conversations?
Words create the lens through which we view our experiences and contexts. So what type of circumstances do we create when we use language like: top-down, hierarchical, subordinate, hunting for business, target clients, human capital, and maximizing people?
What are your thoughts and challenges related to the steward leadership model?
